ABOUT US

Women academics held 41.3% of academic positions across the European Union in 2016. Even though women accounted for 23.7% of Grade A positions, 40.5% of Grade B positions, and 46.4% of Grade C positions, women continues to remain a minority among senior academics (Grade A) in many EU countries.
In 2019, women academics in the United Kingdom brought home, on average, 15% less than their male counterparts.
As a young researcher myself, I find it hard to maintain my interest in my work when these are the realities we are facing as women academics. As the only researcher in my department, I often found myself feeling isolated and in need to talk to someone, maybe someone who has been through this journey before. What really struck me was the lack of a network for those women in academia who feel the same as I do.
This motivated me to create ACADEMICAS - a platform for women academics around the world aimed to incite an opportunity to connect, share experiences and provide support for each other during their academic careers and after.
I’d like to say that whilst this is aimed at women, it is also welcoming anyone, regardless of their gender and social background who feel like they want to contribute, support and raise awareness about the challenges of our field.
